Social workers work towards the research and practice to improve the development of the potential of people, community, and group, along with the improvement in quality of life. They also work in higher education, practice or research. Research is usually done in areas such as public administration, international and community development, social policy and program evaluation. They are organized in various bodies such as local, national, continental, and international. Some part of social work also overlaps with other fields including education, medicine, economics, psychology, politics and sociology.
Professional social workers generally hold a degree in social work. They also need to obtain a license or be professionally registered.
