Medical transcribers, also known as medical transcriptionist, are health professionals who deal with the process of transcriptions. They transcribe the voice recordings of physicians, doctors, and surgeons and deliver it in a text format. These text formats are then sent to the insurance companies for required processing and documentation. It deals with application of techniques and principles associated with the field of medicine. This branch tries to bridge the gap between the doctors and the insurance companies by better understand the medical world with special emphasis on health care and biological sciences.
Medical transcriptionists do not deal with research and synthesis in biological sciences but engage in understanding & helping the insurance companies work. Insurance companies working in health care domains need to understand & solving health hazards and issues combining knowledge of both medicine and insurance.
M.S., M.S.E., or M.Eng. Or a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in BME or another branch of engineering in medical engineering or even with chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering with specialization on medical related fields like bio chemical, bio mechanical or bio electrical respectively. Medical Transcribers require considerable knowledge of both biology & medicine.
The salary package of the medical transcribers could be somewhere between 2.5 Lac to 3 Lac p.a. (Approx). Further it depends on the level of expertise and experience in specific fields.
