Established in 1991, MICA (formerly known as Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad), is the only residential institute in the country and perhaps in the Asia-Pacific region, dedicated to creating Leadership in Strategic Marketing and Communication. MICA is an autonomous, non-profit institution, offering a wide-range of academic programmes during the past two decades, MICA now has three residential programs - the Post Graduate Programme (PGP), the Crafting Creative Communications (CCC) and the Fellow Programme in Management-Communications (FPM-C).

A top rated institute, MICA offers an AICTE approved PGDM-C, equivalent to an MBA with specialisations in Marketing Research, Digital Communication Management, Brand Management, Media Management and Advertising Management.

MICA’s FPM-C [Fellow Programme in Management- Communications] is the only of its kind AICTE approved doctoral level programme that encourages both fundamental and applied research in the communication domain, with offerings in the sub-areas of: 1. Communication and Media, 2. Communication and Marketing, 3. Communication and Culture, and 4. Communication and Social Change.

Offering specialisations in Crafting Copywriting and Art Direction, the Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Crafting Creative Communications (CCC) churns out highly skilled professionals, with a high calibre for creative careers in Marketing Communications.

Its spirit lies in its grasping of contemporariness, addressing the needs of an ever-changing environment. The MICA brand assures effective delivery of Strategic Marketing and Communication solutions to the industry, government and community.

Today, it is the alma mater of professionals serving in leadership positions in some of the best known companies in India and the world, in marketing, brand management, research & analytics, advertising, media, digital and other related businesses.

The MICA Incubator at MICA EDC is committed to the objective of supporting budding entrepreneurs in the entire process of their business formation i.e. right from the stage of conception to the stage of commercialisation. Once the idea is selected for incubation, the incubator will provide support in terms of conversion of the idea into a working model, research experimentation, lab testing, accreditations, market research, business plan, promotion, networking and so on, along with the continual guidance of highly respected mentors.

Along with this support, the MICA Incubator will provide the following facilities to Incubatees:

  • An existing extensive network of academicians, professionals, entrepreneurs and organisations in the communication industry in and outside India
  • Television Audience Measurement Lab, established at the MICA</b></p> campus jointly with the Media Agency of Mudra (OMS) and the Audience Measurement Analytics Limited (AMAP)
  • Hughes Directways on-line education facility, which has commenced programmes in Media Management, Data Analytics, Advertising Management and Integrated Marketing Communication
  • A one of its kind ‘Idea Lab’, with state-of-the-art facilities aimed at getting the best ideas out of the closet
  • Digital I-Mac lab equipped with 16 I-Macs (IBM platform too) and design softwares like Adobe Photoshop, 3D studio max, Maya, Adobe Premiere and Illustrator
  • Digital Design & Publishing support
  • Video Conferencing room, providing access to global communication facilities
  • Radio broadcasting facilities
  • Access to library resources including the huge collection of articles, journals, databases, videos, etc. in the online library
  • Basic office amenities like computing, telephony, facsimile and postal services, meeting space etc
  • Other amenities like a canteen facility, auditorium, outdoor and recreational facilities, gymnasium, etc.

The applicants should go through the following application process:

  1. Fill the application form online at the MICA website. (Link to application portal(Use Firefox browser)
  2. Submit the following (through snail mail) by the specified date:
    • Application fee of Rs. 2000 through a demand draft drawn in favour of "MICA" payable at Ahmedabad. Please write your name and contact details on the back of the demand draft
    • Two letters of recommendation (blank forms for recommendation letters and the instructions can be downloaded from the online application portal)
    • Copies of academic certificates as described in the application instructions

 

Student Placements at MICA

Since its inception in 1991, MICA has come to be recognised by the industry as the destination for professionals in the field of Strategic Marketing and Communication. Our consistent track record of 100% placements year after year and the diversity of companies that recruit from MICA, are testaments to the quality of our student pool and the robustness of our curriculum. Known also for the marketing stellars it produces, MICA offers a talented pool of bright and motivated students who are ready to be absorbed into the industry.

At MICA, a unique trilogy of students, faculty and learning resources produces some of the best minds in the country. Consequently, many of our alumni hold some of the top managerial positions today, across companies in India and abroad. MICA's students come from diverse backgrounds, which helps them to examine managerial issues from multiple perspectives. Some of the unique characteristics of our students include academic excellence, leadership qualities and a deep-rooted respect for culture and values.

The admission process is a rigid one, beginning with the MICA Admission Test (MICAT), followed by a round of group exercises and personal interviews. Students are given a rigorous training in different functional areas of  marketing communication, such as brand management, marketing research, media management, digital media and account planning and are exposed to the best of corporate practices. Teaching methods and learning pedagogy at MICA include lectures, case studies, seminars, group discussions, business games, role plays, simulation exercises, structured and unstructured group work, as well as field visits. The emphasis is on involving the students in learning and helping them to relate concepts and theories to business requirements.

As an added advantage, the learning provided at MICA is not only restricted to the classroom. Numerous MICA students take up live projects with the industry, in addition to their summer internships, so as to get practical insights into real-world businesses. Additionally, the key essential catalyst in this process of transformation is our highly accomplished and erudite faculty. Our faculty members are involved in facilitating learning through teaching, consultancy, as well as cutting-edge research.

In a nutshell, the education at MICA equips students with the skills, knowledge, and analytical mindset required to identify and solve problems; effective communication skills to implement solutions agreed upon and sufficient practical exposure to create action plans and execute these solutions. Creativity is integral to a MICA student’s way of working.

There are three kinds of placements at MICA:

Summer Placements

This internship provides students with an opportunity to gain work experience in an area of concentration or interest while receiving credit towards their diploma. The summer internship is organised for 8-10 weeks in various advertising agencies, media and marketing organisations during the summer break at the end of the first year of the programme. No student is admitted to the second year without completing the summer internship.

The summer placement procedure starts around the month of September.

Lateral Placements

The lateral placement process caters to students with substantial prior work experience. These students are offered positions above the entry level at various organisations.

Final Placements

MICA has maintained a 100% placement record since the past few years. The final placement procedure starts around the month of December.
