A Probation Officer forms a part of an investigation team and supervises defendants who are to be sentenced to a term. They have a flat hierarchical structure and are headed by chief probation officer or a director. They are responsible for supervision of criminals who are just released from prison so that they do not carry out any activities which are against the law. They supervise certain communities in certain states and make sure that no additional crimes are committed by people who are under the police scanner.
A master's or a doctorate in subjects such as criminal justice, counselling, psychology, law, etc
